Breville Mixer vs. KitchenAid Mixer

Breville and KitchenAid both make impressive stand mixers, but trying to decide which to buy can be a difficult decision.  When choosing a stand mixer, it’s important to compare the ease of use, features and overall functionality. We’ve done the work for you, with a comparison of the Breville BEM800XL and the KitchenAid Artisan stand mixers. Our opinion is the KitchenAid stand mixer is the best choice.

Features

Both mixers include a 5 quart stainless steel bowl, balloon whisk, dough hook, flat beater, and splash guard. They both have direct drive transmission, which means fewer parts to wear out, metal gears, and feature planetary mixing, which allows the beaters to hit several different points in the bowl, which ensures thorough mixing of the ingredients.

The Breville BEM800XL has 12 speeds and a 550-watt motor; KitchenAid Artisan has 10 speeds and a 325-watt motor. The KitchenAid Artisan comes in 27 gorgeous colors to complement any kitchen décor, while the Breville is only available in one color – silver.

The KitchenAid Artisan mixer has extra attachments you can purchase separately that gives the mixer even more functionality. Some of the accessories that can be used with the KitchenAid stand mixer include:

  • Citrus Juicer
  • Food Grinder
  • Vegetable Strainer
  • Ice Cream Maker
  •  Food Tray
  •  Meat Grinder
  •  Ravioli Maker
  •  Pasta Cutter
  •  Pasta Roller
  •  Rotor Slicer with Shredder
  •  Grain Mill
  •  Sausage Stuffer
  •  Glass Bowl
  •  Bowl Cover
  •  Flex Edge Beater

We could go on and on.  Because the Breville and KitchenAid mixers are similarly priced, the functionality of the KitchenAid makes it a sound economical choice.

Ease of Use

Both the Breville BEM800XL and the KitchenAid Artisan Stand mixers have a tilt-head for ease of use and an automatic shutoff, if the mixer were to overheat.  Both are easy to clean and both have bowls with a handle, making them easy to lift.  With splash guards on both models, both are easy to use without making a mess, keeping the ingredients in the bowl instead of all over your kitchen.

Help & Support

Both the Breville BEM800XL and KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer include a 1-year warranty. Both come with a user manual with recipes, and both offer phone and e-mail support. KitchenAid even includes Live Chat support.   KitchenAid has been found to have more reliable customer service.  Some customers who bought the Breville Stand Mixer have complained that they’ve been unable to receive help when they have experienced a problem.

Summary

We feel that KitchenAid’s Artisan mixer is the best choice for several reasons. One, the mixer is so functional, with all the attachments available, to do everything from make raviolis to stuff sausages.  It’s easy to clean and easy to operate. Also, KitchenAid is available in colors to match any décor, and that’s important when buying a product that you’ll use frequently and will want to display on your countertop.  Also, KitchenAid seems to have a better customer support service, including Live Chat,  which is definitely a plus should you experience any problems with your mixer.
